Maritime History
Launched in 1628, the Vasa was built to be the absolute crown jewel of the Royal Swedish Navy and a terrifying symbol of the nation's military might. Due to critical instability caused by carrying heavy dual-deck artillery, she tragically foundered and sank in Stockholm harbor just minutes into her maiden voyage. Salvaged almost fully intact in 1961 after 333 years underwater, she stands today as the world's best-preserved 17th-century ship and an unparalleled maritime treasure.
