Maritime History
Launched in the late 18th century, La Confiance was a remarkably fast French privateer ship armed with up to 24 guns, designed to outmaneuver heavy naval vessels. She achieved immortal maritime glory in October 1800 under the brilliant command of Robert Surcouf, during the legendary capture of the massive British East Indiaman Kent. This historic battle, where a crew of 130 French corsairs boarded and seized a ship defended by over 400 men, cemented La Confiance as one of the most famous privateers in naval history.
