Maritime History
Built in Brest in 1784, Le Superbe was a celebrated 74-gun ship of the line belonging to the French Royal Navy. Designed by the renowned naval architect Jacques-Noël Sané, her exceptional speed and maneuverability made her a landmark example of 18th-century French warship design before her tragic loss during the Battle of May 13, 1795 (Prairial Year III).
