The name Reale indicates that the galley belonged to the King
of France. This ship was equipped with two latten sails. As
it was very low on the waterline the covering was often flooded.
The sole possibility for the galley to enter into a battle against
a heavily armed ship, was to choose its combat position, directing
the bow on the ennemy.
